The B.M.S.C. is a program of the Esplanade Association. It was formed in 2002 to reestablish the tradition of model boating on Storrow Lagoon, and to provide an exciting recreational opportunity for all park users. The program is run by its members, who volunteer their time and skills to make the boats available.
The BMSC's mission is to provide for and promote the historic tradition of model boating on the Storrow Lagoon, located along the banks of the Charles River in Boston, MA.
The BMSC serves two purposes:
A. To increase the number of people that use the Storrow Lagoon for model boating by encouraging and empowering anyone with or without a model boat to join the BMSC for general sailing and informal racing free of charge.
B. To build its volunteer member base in order to achieve 4 main goals:
1. Organize and manage time providing the BMSC's boats free of charge to the general public
2. Maintain the BMSC's fleet of boats
3. Enable the general public and the BMSC's volunteer members to engage in the hobby of model sailboat racing
4. Help care for and enhance the usability of the Storrow Lagoon and the area that immediately surrounds it
